About
JESSICA ZIMMER
“I place a great deal of importance on the deep value beauty holds in the wellbeing of a society. Without it, I believe we suffer.”
Educated as a graphic designer, Jessica Zimmer has been working in the design industry for over twenty years. She is Partner and Design Director of Zimmer-Design, which she co-owns with her husband. Decades of experience in the creative world have allowed her to bring a comprehensive understanding of color, movement, proportion, and composition into her paintings.
Each piece happens intuitively and is an active dance of consideration and spontaneity. Jessica often uses a specific color as a starting point for her paintings but allows the rest of the composition to flow freely and unencumbered by preconceived plans. The pictures reveal themselves in real-time, making each blank sheet of paper an exciting (and mysterious) exercise.
Inspired by her travels, nature, film, music, and artists before her, some favorite sources of inspiration include films by Merchant Ivory and Luca Guadagnino, the light and landscapes of Maine, Nova Scotia, Iceland, and Venice, Italy, the paintings of Agnes Martin, Hilda af Klint, Johannes Vermeer, Yves Klein, and Mark Rothko, and the sculptures of Henry Moore and Richard Serra.
